HALIFAX -  Lennis Nelms Newsom, 80, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver S. Nelms and Annie Braswell Nelms; husbands, Willis Hill, Sanford Cooke and John Newsom; brothers, Lewis Nelms, Sidney Nelms and Clifton Nelms.

Surviving: brother, Richard C. Nelms (Dorothy) of Enfield; sister, Lucy N. Frazier of Roanoke Rapids; one step-son; three step-daughters; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

Graveside service was Monday, August 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Crestview Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Steve Formo officiating.

Visitation was preceding the funeral service at 10 a.m. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.
