DORTCHES - Elbert Daniel (Dan) Tharrington, 68, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2006. He was born on June 24, 1938 in Nash County, son of the late Zollie Daniel Tharrington and Minnie Irene Moore Tharrington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Abbott Tharrington.

Dan is survived by his daughter: Lee Tharrington Wester of Rocky Mount; three sons: Danny Tharrington and wife Gail, G. Scott Tharrington and wife Rhonda, and Ty Tharrington and wife Tracy, all of Rocky Mount; foster daughter, Sonya Waterfield and husband Martin of Chesapeake, VA; a sister Jean Gilbert and husband John of Richmond, VA; three brothers: Bill Ezzell and wife, Ina of Rocky Mount, Walter Tharrington and wife Mary of Orlando, FL, and Richard Tharrington and wife Beth of Mandarin Falls, NC; along with 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2006, at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
