Bennie Mae Harris Smith Jefferson passed away on August 29, 2026. She was born July 15, 1933 in Edgecombe County to James Luther and Essie Stokes Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clarence Troy Smith and William Thurman Jefferson; son, Benny Clarence Smith and many sisters and brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Stallings (Mike) of Rocky Mount and Linda Price (Dan) of Grimesland; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Branch of Greenville; sister-in-law, Violet Stocks and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held September 2, 2026 at Whitakers Cemetery, Whitakers.
