Waneta "Cookie" Bowman Slater


Waneta Bowman Slater, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2006. She was born July 4, 1925 in Knoxville; TN. Cookie had always worked as a waitress in the area restaurants. She worked the last fifteen years for Walnut Café until she retired in 1984. Cookie loved watching the Atlanta Braves and stock car racing.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Shirley Croom Head and husband Kenneth of Nashville; one son, Danny Ray Croom and wife Jill of Lake Mary, FL; one granddaughter, Lisa Robbins Bauer of Rocky Mount.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 25, 2006 in the Chapel of Bowling Funeral Home at 7:00 pm with visitation immediately following the service. Graveside services were held Saturday, August 26, 2006, 2:00 pm at Pineview Cemetery with Minister Marie Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Kennedy Memorial Children's Home, 2557 Cedar Dale Lane, Kinston, NC 26504
The family would like to thank the entire ER and ICU staff at Nash General for the professional and caring service shown to our mother. Also, we would like to thank her friends and the staff at Trinity Retirement Villa A for their care and love. A very special thanks to Marie Parker, momma's minister and sister in Christ; thank you for always being momma's spiritual rock.
