ROCKY MOUNT - Gerald Sykes, 71 died Saturday, August 26, 2006. He was born in Nash County, September 8, 1934 to the late Edgar Cornelious Sykes and Minnie Batchelor Sykes.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Ferrell Sykes of the home; daughters, Lynn Sykes Kennedy (Merron) of Rocky Mount, Sherri Sykes Lewis (Linwood) of Tarboro; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Beulah Hudson of Nashville, Myrtle Harris (Linwood) of Chase City, VA, Magalene Bartholomew (Joe) of Spring Hope; four brothers, Joseph Sykes of Pensacola, Fl., Paul Sykes (Lorene) of Spring Hope, Lervern Sykes (Patsy) of Spring Hope and Eslie Sykes (Frances) of Durham.

Services were held Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson Funerals and Cremations with Rev. Michael Edwards and Rev. Ron Hawley officiating. Interment followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
