ROCKY MOUNT - Laverne Woodrow "Woody" Long, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Born in Granville County on July 2, 1951, he was the son of the late Harvey Woodrow Long and Stacy Elizabeth Kiger Long. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lexi Brooke Braswell; his brothers, Harvey Franklin "Frankie" Long, Sr. and Larry S. Long; and his sisters, Sylvia Long Mallison and Nancy Long Bailey.

Laverne is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kim Joyner Long; his daughter, Kimberly Long Braswell and husband, Paul; three grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Nina P. Joyner.

A service will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
