ROCKY MOUNT - Mary Baines Hale, 71, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008. She was born June 4, 1937 in Nash County. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Annie Baines. She was preceded in death by one son, Alfred “Jay” English; sisters, Janie Sills and Nellie Valentine; and brother, James Baines.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Bryant and husband Roy, Janice Harris and husband Joe, Wanda Taylor, and William Taylor and wife Diane; brother, Johnny Baines; daughter-in-law, Sherrie English; special friend, Elias Murphy, Jr.; sister, Helen Walton; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family received family and friends Friday, November 7, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funerals and Cremations on Sunset Avenue and other times at the home of Cynthia and Roy Bryant. Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Pineview Cemetery.
