ANNIE OWENS WHITLEY


SPRING HOPE - Annie Owens Whitley, 79, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Nash General Hospital. She was the widow of Quinton J. Whitley and the daughter of the late Rufus and Martha Phillips Owens.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home by Rev. Larry Matthews and Rev. Jimmy Price. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Elm City.

Survivors include five daughters, Virginia Johnson of Spring Hope, Jackie Whitley, of the home, Roda Whitley of Kenly, Pam Smith and husband Rudolph and Rhonda Perry and husband Freddie, all of Wilson; two sons, Larry “Buddy” Whitley of the home and Wiliam Ray Whitley of Spring Hope; two sisters, Betty Leigh Pridgen of Sims and Alice Faye Joyner of Rocky Mount; one brother, Robert “Bob” Owens of Elm City; eight grandchidlren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Whitley and Gladys Owens Whitley; two brothers, Wesley Owens and Thomas Rufus Owens; a sister, Mittie Pridgen and a grandson, Kenneth Smith.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening, September 2 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shingleton Funeral Home in Wilson and other times at the residence.
