PHYLLIS JANE CONE (CARPENTER)

Phyllis Jane Cone (Carpenter), a Nash County Native, age 79, died on Thursday, November 28, 2019, in Los Angeles, CA. She was born on January 29, 1940 to Edward and Lucille Carpenter. Phyllis Jane was a 1958 graduate of Rocky Mount High. She married Fred Cone of Spring Hope in 1959 and devoted her time to her family. She lived a somewhat gypsy life, with homes in Los Angeles, Texas, Cincinnati and Brooklyn.

She was a loving Granny to many. Phyllis Jane enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, watching movies and traveling. She had a great love and devotion to her family. Phyllis Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Edward 1985, Lucille 1988; her sisters, Brenda Kay 1946, Judy 1998; and her husband, Fred 1984.

She is survived by her son, Joel and his wife, Terri; her daughter, Stephanie (Laing); her brother, Ken and his wife, Susan; 6 grandchildren, Kristen, Allison, Lauren, Maclaren, Patterson, and Watson; a great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. To honor Phyllis Jane's final wish, her family will be scattering her ashes, at sea, so she can enjoy the beaches for eternity.

She went by many different names, almost needing an addendum for the AKA box on her death certificate. You might know her as Jane Cone, Phyllis Cone, PJ Cone, PJ Carpenter, Phyllis Jane, Phyllis Starr, or Jane Starr, but to us she was just Granny. She will be missed along with her love of Benihana, mayonnaise and banana sandwiches and Vin Diesel movies. We love you Granny.
