STANHOPE -- Strange as it may sound, Bunn did the best defensive job on the Southern Nash Firebirds to date this season -- and still allowed 42 points.

That's how potent the Firebirds' offense is as Coach Brian Foster's club had delivered a combined 124 points through two games heading into last Wednesday's backyard rivalry showdown with the Wildcats at historic Firebird Stadium on the SNHS campus.

Bunn was actually in the game at halftime, but Southern Nash's high-powered work proved to be too much the rest of the way as the undefeated Firebirds (3-0) pulled away in the second half en route to securing a 42-14 decision over the Wildcats (0-3).

Southern Nash got things going with a 57-yard touchdown run from sophomore sensation Jackson Vick at the 2:34 mark of the first period -- and added another tally early in the second stanza when Wake Forest University commit Quinton Cooley found the end zone from five yards out.

Bunn, however, made the outing interesting when Jaylen Perry converted on a 1-yard TD dive with 4:25 remaining before the break to bring the Wildcats within 14-7.

But SN had an answer, marching quickly downfield before quarterback Matt Foster found Cooley on a 17-yard TD connection to give the Firebirds a 21-7 cushion at intermission.

The third period would belong to Cooley as he delivered touchdown bursts of 57, 21 and 19 yards to help Southern Nash pull away for good.

Bunn was able to get a fourth-period score from Ladavous Bolden off a 4-yard run for the final points of the contest.

Just like its first two contests, Southern Nash's offense was formidable with 415 total yards on just 38 snaps -- an average of almost 11 yards per play.

Cooley was memorable once again for the Firebirds with 153 yards on just 10 carries to go with two receptions for 20 yards. Cooley found the end zone five times to continue his amazing senior season.

Matt Foster was solid behind center for Southern with 50 passing yards and 94 rushing yards.

Vick chipped in with 90 yards as the Firebirds finished with a whopping 365 yards on the ground.

Bunn delivered 124 total yards, with Bolden (57) and Perry (47) combining for 104 rushing yards.

Southern Nash will put its perfect record to the test this Friday at South Granville in another non-league meeting.

Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on the SGHS campus in Creedmoor.
