NASHVILLE – John J. Bailey, Jr., 87, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday at Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro with the Rev. Wayne Hicks and Dr. Ed Conner officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

John served as Director of the Edgecombe County ASCS office in Tarboro and retired after many years of service. He was a member and past president of the Tarboro Rotary Club and a retired major in the NC National Guard.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Bailey and sister, Josephine Bailey.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Betty Williamson Bailey; son, Johnny J. Bailey, III and wife Debra of Tarboro; step-sons, Edward Bass and Gene Bass, both of Nashville and Lawrence Bass of Wilmington; granddaughter, Amanda Bailey of Tarboro; step-grandchildren, Courtney Bass and wife Brittany of Raleigh and Chase Bass of Nashville; brother, Spencer Bailey and wife Lois of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sisters, Margaret Whitehurst of Greenville, Peggy Stancil of Clinton and Jean Boyd of New Bern.

Friends are invited to visit the family 7-9 p.m., Thursday at Carlisle Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cobb Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1101 Sunset Ave., Tarboro, NC 27886.
