Thomas "Tommy" William Overton, age 79, of Rocky Mount, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018. Born in Rocky Mount on November 19, 1938, he was the son of the late William Henry Overton, mother, June Swigert Overton, and stepmother, Elda Mae Overton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Daniel Overton of Texas; and granddaughter, Melissa Ann Everette of Rocky Mount.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Patterson Overton; two sons, Randy Overton and wife, Karen, of Battleboro and Michael Overton and wife, Cathy, of Battleboro; one daughter, MaryAnn Gotowala of Clayton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Mark Pridgen and Clay Leonard officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 7 - 9 p.m. at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
