Ella Louise Calhoun Coats, age 94, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Born in Edgecombe County on October 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Kelly Lewis Calhoun and Effie Bulluck Calhoun. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James Russell Coats; son, James "Jimmy" Russell Coats, Jr.; brothers, Kelly Marvin Calhoun, Leon Conway Calhoun, Sr. and wife, Dorothy, George Dempsey Calhoun and wife, Evelyn; brother-in-law, P. G. Shelton; and sisters, Evelyn Calhoun Griffin and husband, William Fenner, Rubye Calhoun Todd and husband, Romney, and Mae Calhoun Stallings and husband, Alton.

She is survived by her brother, Raymond Cecil Calhoun and wife, Jerry, of Rocky Mount; and sister, Gladys Calhoun Shelton of Tarboro; along with a host of several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Pineview Cemetery with Dr. Jody Wright officiating.
