James Edward Batts, age 59, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Born in Wayne County on May 19, 1958, he was the son of the late James Daniel Batts and Geraldine Coley Batts.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Fox Batts; step-son, Michael Low of Lynchburg, VA; step-daughter, Michele Arnold of Washington, DC; brothers, Robert Daniel "Dan" Batts and wife, Bonnie, of Louisburg, Gerald Batts and wife, Jane, of Rocky Mount, Timmy Batts and wife, Karen, of Lake Havasu, AZ; sister, Freda Weaver and husband, Danny, of Rocky Mount; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Sam Codington officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Haven Presbyterian Church, 1001 West Haven Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
