Johnnie Randolph Newton, 88, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at his home. He was born October 23, 1928 to Johnnie Thomas Newton and Minnie Williford Newton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Jean Murray Newton, his brothers, William and Doug, his sister, Doris Daughtridge and his grandson, Christian Tyler Kearney.

He is survived by his son, William Douglas "Bill" Newton and wife Lisa of Rocky Mount; his daughter, Donna Newton Kearney and husband John of Rocky Mount; 3 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 6, 2017, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Nashville. Services will be held Friday, July 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Pastor Luke Whitehead and Pastor Mike Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3739 National Drive, Raleigh, NC 27612 or the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park # 11, Raleigh, NC 27615.
