Ivey Rollins Powell, Sr., age 88, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017. Born in Halifax County on February 26, 1929, he was the son of the late Gaston E. Powell and Rosa Myrene Crawley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Powell; and brothers, Edward "Ed" Powell and Joseph "Joe" Powell.

He is survived by his daughters, Claudia Sikes and husband, Grant, of Rocky Mount, and Mona Powell of Greenville; sons, James R. Lawrence, Jr. and wife, Tonnie, of Raleigh, and Ivey Powell, Jr. of Rocky Mount; 8 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, with Rev. Bill Grisham and Rev. Larry Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service in the Narthex of First Baptist Church.
