William "Billy" Irvin Powell, age 84, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017. Born in Edgecombe County on November 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Ivey Joseph Powell and Gladys Dickens Powell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Alton Powell, Thurman Powell, John D. Powell, and Robert Powell; and sister, Dorothy Powell Etheridge.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie Powell Ingram and her husband, Lemmie; sons, Speight Powell, Julian Powell and his wife, Bobbie, and Scott Powell and his wife, Debbie; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Powell Hayes and Lois Powell Brown.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Pineview Cemetery.
