Vernell T. Calhoun, age 81, of Rocky Mount, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016.

​She was born in Nash County November 1, 1934, one of five children born to Dan and Sue Davis Thornell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death three brothers: Millard, Dan, and Herman Thornell.

She is survived by her husband, Billy D. Calhoun; sister, Carolyn Landing (Dick) of Elm City; cousins and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside tribute will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016, Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount.
