DR. GENEVA BOONE CHAVIS

Dr. Geneva Boone Chavis entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 after an extended illness. She was born on January 15, 1930 to the late John L. and Flossie Anderson Boone in Woodland, NC, where she grew up and was educated in the Northampton County school system. She attended Shaw University for her undergraduate degree and obtain her masters degree from North Carolina Central University. She earned a Doctor of Education degree from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

She began her teaching career with the Mecklenberg County school system. She married and moved to Nash County where she taught school in the Nash County school system. She resided in the area until her death.

Dr. Chavis is survived her children; Doneva Z. Chavis-Battle(Deryl) of Nashville, NC, Kanawha Z. Chavis Jr. (Octavia) of Oklahoma City, OK, Arlin T. Chavis of Red Oak, NC, Karan G. Chavis-Blakely (Craig) of Louisville, KY, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters Margaret B. Lindsey, of Raleigh, NC, Montrose B. Bunch of Apex, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Kanawha Z. Chavis, Sr.

A visitation will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at H. D. Pope Funeral Home at 325 Nash St. Rocky Mount, NC. The funeral Mass will be held 12 noon Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 331 Hammond St. Rocky Mount, NC.
