Eddie Whitley, Jr., age 92, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016. Born in Wilson County on March 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Eddie Thomas Whitley and Bessie Griffin Whitley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Louise Whitley; son, Lee Whitley; daughter, Deborah Paine; granddaughter, Carla Whitley; brothers, Clyde Whitley; David Whitley; Harvey Whitley; Norman Whitley; and Kenneth Whitley; and sisters, Esther W. Wiggins; Virginia W. Balkeum; Frances W. Edwards; Margaret W. Martin; and Ethel W. McSwan.

He is survived by his son, Ronnie Whitley and wife, Carol, of Rocky Mount; 5 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen W. Swindle of Rocky Mount and Mavis W. Lanier of Rocky Mount.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. David Whitley officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, September 5, 2016 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
