Howard Croom "Sonny" Pigford, age 86, of Rocky Mount, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was born in Edgecombe County on February 20, 1930, he was the son of the late Levi King Pigford and Annie Estelle Croom Pigford. He was preceded in death by his sister Lestevia Pigford Smith and a nephew Stephen Lee Pitt.

He is survived by his sweetheart of over 30 years, Evelyn Starling Trevathan; sister, Anne P. Mena and husband, Bob; daughters, Cathy Sullivan Daniels and husband Bryan, Stephanie P. Caldwell and husband Tom, and Merry Angela Gallo and husband Christopher; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 1 -2 p.m. at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A Reception will follow at the Golden Living Center, 1000 Western Blvd, Tarboro following the committal.
