Nellie Jean Carter Ward, 79, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016. She was born January 20, 1937 in Alleghany County, Va. to the late Charles and Ella Broughman Carter. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Ward and a son, Staff Sgt. David Wayne Ward.

She is survived by her son, Gary Lee Ward (Diana); daughters, Teresa Ward, Crystal Marie Kurtz and Tammy James (Brian); daughter-in-law, Patricia Ward; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Pastor Mike Coggin and Brandon Ward officiating. Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Cornerstone Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Nash General 2416 Professional Dr. Rocky Mount, NC 27804
