ROCKY MOUNT – Shirley Banks Holland, 78, of Rocky Mount died Tuesday, January 29, 2008. He was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on July 4, 1929, son of the late Louis Earl Holland and Fern Bragg Holland, both natives of Virginia.

A gathering to celebrate his life was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home chapel. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. William V. Grisham officiated. Burial followed at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount.

Mr. Holland is survived by cousins, Susan Clough of Chapel Hill, Rebecca Turbyfill of Newport News, Virginia, and Lynn Clough of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
