Sandra "Sandy" James West, age 63, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016. Born in Mecklenburg County on December 6, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Ciscro James and Ella Mae Pitts James. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marion Singletary and Shirley Mode; and her brother, Harvey Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Tamara "Tammy" Gantt of Raleigh; brothers, Harry Smith of Huntersville, NC and Larry Smith of Winder, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Keith Griffin officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PAW NC, 2455 Hurt Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, to reduce homelessness and find homes for animals in the greater Nash County area.
