ELM CITY – Virginia Bridgers Lucas, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 at Nash Grove Manor in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday, Jan. 9) at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Shingleton Funeral Home by Elder Johnny Ray Gardner. Interment will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie Ruffin and Mary Ballance Bridgers and the widow of Lee R. Lucas.

Survivors include four daughters, Gladys Jean Lucas of Hawaii, Virginia Dale Poland and husband, Jack, of Rocky Mount, and Dianne Lucas Sanders and Jenny Leigh Lucas, both of Elm City; a son, Wade Douglas “Doug” Lucas of Rocky Mount; a sister, Vivian Bridgers Parrish of Kenly; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
