Sam "Sterling" Carroll III, 44, passed away September 16, 2015. He was born in Rocky Mount on Jan. 22, 1971, to Shelia Carroll of Rocky Mount and Sammy Carroll of Elm City.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Virginia Ford Carroll, daughter Ashely Carroll and Autumn Carroll of the home. Proceeding in the death, his Maternal Grandparents James Valentines and Beatrice Bryant; Paternal Grandparents S.T. Carroll and Mittie Carroll; uncles Sam McCafferty and Mark Valentine and a stepmother Rhonda Carroll.; brothers Ronnie Miller (Tina), William Carroll (Twiana), JT Carroll, Tina Joyner(Joey); father and mother-in-law, Britton and Dare Ford; sister-in-law Bobbie Jo Barbour (Robbie).

A funeral service was held Sunday, September 20, 2015 . in the Chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
