SALISBURY – Mrs. Susan Rhea Vickrey died Saturday, June 17, 2006. She was born Dec. 16, 1948 in Beaver, Ohio, to the late Wayne and Evelyn Rhea.

She is survived by her loving husband of 12 years, Rev. Jimmy Vickrey; daughters Gina Prince and husband Chris of Macclesfield and Amanda Warren and husband Roy, granddaughter Marianna Warren, grandsons Matthew and Christopher Warren, all of Stokes; stepdaughter Sarah Faries and husband Jonathon of Charlotte; stepsons Mike Vickrey of Wilson and Chris Vickrey of Johnson City, Tenn.; stepgrandchildren Nicholas and Haleigh Vickrey and Ezra and Jesse Faries; sisters, Janie Lindsay and husband Larry, Peggy Joyner and husband Al, all of Sandy Cross; brother Jimmie Rhea and wife Phyllis of Rocky Mount; one niece and five nephews. She is also survived by Scooter, her beloved and spoiled Shih Tzu. Her nephews Jeffrey Rhea, Bradley Lindsay, Christopher Joyner, Brian Joyner, Rodney Joyner and Dr. Barney Perry will serve as her pallbearers.

After a 10 month battle with cancer, Susan surrendered her body but never her spirit as an example of Christian trust in the faithfulness of God. Susan and Jimmy were married on June 25, 1994 and enjoyed 12 years of true love and partnership. She retired as an Area Sales Manager earlier this year from Belk after 20 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class.

Susan's passion was her family and she took special pride when her granddaughter, Marianna, was born in becoming known as "Grammy Tu-Tu." Susan could light up a room wit her beautiful smile and warm your heart with her sweet personality. Her Christian faith was strengthened by the hardships she had faced in life and her battle with cancer was no exception. She taught her family for years how to live life and in recent months how to face death victoriously. Susan will be greatly missed by all those who knew and were touched by her. To honor her memory the family resolves to follow her example and continue to live our lives filled with the joy and wonder of following Christ and join her soon in that glorious place called Heaven.
