Joseph William (Bill) Whitfield, 77, passed away on Sunday evening, February 2 2014. He was born in Nashville, on June 9. 1936, the only child of Wade Hampton and Lucy Ward Whitfield, also of Nashville. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Addison Whitfield and wives Peggy Combs Whitfield and Ava Combs Whitfield.
He is survived by a son, Joseph Wade Whitfield, a stepson, Nathan D. Combs and a wife, Ann Braddy Whitfield and honorary sons Howard Pierce and Al Lancaster.
The family will receive friends at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home of Rocky Mount 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, February 7. The service will be held at Oak Level Baptist Church at 3598 Oak Level Road, Rocky Mount, NC at 2 p.m. on Saturday,  February 8 with Reverend Hoyle “Kip” Vinson officiating. Internment will then follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Nashville.
The family requests that donations in Bill’s memory be made to Oak Level Baptist Church at 3578 Oak Level Road, Rocky Mount NC 27804.
