ROCKY MOUNT - Hazel Hatcher Herring, 93, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Nash General Hospital. She was born on October 26, 1918 in Johnston County to the late Ner and Undine Sellers Hatcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Romie Lee Herring, Sr.; sisters, Norma Smith, Letha Wall, Ethel Woodard, Velma Ellis, Ruth Humbert; brothers, Carl Hatcher, Ed Hatcher, Harper Hatcher, Tom Hatcher, and Joe Hatcher.

She is survived by daughter, Susan Herring Ayers (Fred) of Nashville; sons, Romie Lee Herring, Jr. (Lu Ann) of Raleigh, Samuel Hatcher Herring (Elisa) of Fletcher; two grandsons; sisters, Rosalyn Howes of Pine Level, Del Jean Lee (Marvis) of Knoxville, TN, sisters-in-law, Hazel Surles of Micro, Ruth Hatcher of Bunn, and Frances Strickland of Mount Olive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

A graveside service was  held   on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Pineview Cemetery (Sect. 41) with Rev. Keith Griffin officiating.
