ROCKY MOUNT - Alton “Buddy” Eugene Wood, 96, born March 27, 1915 in Nash County, passed away Monday November 21, 2011. Alton was the son of the late Ernest and Letha Bradshaw Wood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth M. Wood, daughter, Bonnie Wood Carson, sisters, Carolyn Wood Moss and Alma Wood Langley, brother, Lewis Clifton Wood.

Survivors include his wife, Emma P. Wood, one daughter, Judy Brice and husband Chris of Rocky Mount, two step-sons, Willis Burgess and wife Kay of Centerville, Jimmy Burgess and wife Rebecca of Rocky Mount, two step-daughters, Patricia Grooms of Rocky Mount and Nancy Burgess of Apopka, Florida, son-in-law, Stephen Carson of Bath, three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday November 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Albie Brice and Rev. Bill Coffey officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
