MATTIE RUTH PRIDGEN WILLIAMS


Mattie Ruth Pridgen Williams, 81, of Rocky Mount, died Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Nash General Hospital. She was born in Nash County, June 16, 1930, daughter of the late Ben and Pearl Narron Pridgen.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Rick Cone of Alpharetta, GA and son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Robin Williams of Rocky Mount; one granddaughter; brothers Jack Pridgen, Bill Pridgen and wife, Jean, and James Pridgen, all of Rocky Mount; sisters Myrtie Pridgen, Mary Batts, and husband Donald, Doris Burgess, Betty Hawley, all of Rocky Mount and Barbara White of Wilmington;  nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She  was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Lester Ray Williams; her grandson, Christopher Brinson; brothers: William David “Buddy” Pridgen, Elbert “Junior” Pridgen.

Her Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Union Missionary Baptist Church, Rocky Mount,  with the Rev. Gene Brooks officiating. The interment followed in the Mill Branch Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or charity of one’s choice.
