Nellie Shearin Griffin, age 95 of Rocky Mount passed away July 21, 2011.

She is preceded in death by her mother: Etta Hamlet Shearin and father: Ernest S. Shearin; husband, John Ervin Griffin; son, J. Gilbert Griffin; grandson, Ray Griffin; five brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her four daughters, Janice Winstead of Nashville, Judith Winstead of Spring Hope, Becky Joyner and husband Eddie of Conway, and Joan Wood and Johnnie of Nashville; Two sons, Astor Griffin and wife Nancie of Swansboro, Kim Griffin and Sheree of Nashville; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Griffin of Nashville.

Funeral services were held held Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount with the Rev. Paul Arnold and Rev. Phil Qualls officiating. The interment followed in the Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family received friends at Johnson Funerals and Cremations from 7 -  8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Community Home Care & Hospice of Rocky Mount, and Momeyer Baptist Church.
