HALIFAX - Mr. Moses Tony Hughes, age 63, of Halifax, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Born June 8, 1947 in Nash County, he was a son of the late Moses Rayford and Jewel Graham Murray Hughes.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Elizabeth Surles Hughes; two daughters, Elizabeth Darlene Hughes of Halifax, and Julie Hughes Perry and her husband, Marty, of Bunn; a son, Anthony Scott Hughes of Halifax; a sister, Carol Hughes Howell of Spring Hope; two brothers, Dennis Hughes and his wife, Sylvia Denise, of Nashville and James Earl Hughes of Clinton; and a granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Hughes Wester and Sylvia Jean Hughes.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the Chapel of Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home.  The Rev. Damian Bogoni, Rev. Earl Hughes, and Rev. Melvin McGriff officiated.  Burial was at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
