James Alton “Sonny” Crusenberry, Sr., age 70, passed away Sunday, February 06, 2011. Born in Edgecombe County, he was the son of Ethel Vandiford Crusenberry of Rocky Mount and the late James Calvin Crusenberry.

Along with his mother, Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 52 ½ years, Claudia Whitley Crusenberry; sons, James A. Crusenberry, Jr. and wife Katherine of Castalia and Michael C. Crusenberry of Raleigh; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Janice C. Howell and husband Jim of Wilson and Judy C. Rogers and husband Don of Rocky Mount.

The family received friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, February 08, 2011 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jacky Raper officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Hospice – Nash General, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount NC 27804.
