Locals graduate from NCSU
North Carolina State University Chancellor James H. Woodward conferred 3,013 degrees on 2,881 graduating students when the university held its 2009 Fall Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

Candidates for degrees were from 89 North Carolina counties, 30 other states or U.S. territories and 35 foreign countries. NC State holds graduation ceremonies each year in the spring and fall.

Woodward conferred two honorary degrees on behalf of NC State. The degree recipients were Dr. Jack Ward Thomas, former head of the U.S. Forest Service and career conservationist, and G. Smedes York, Raleigh’s former mayor and NC State alumnus.

Nash County residents were among those earning degrees from North Carolina State.

Those earning Bachelor’s degrees include Brenda Bohorquez Morales, Katharine Brooks Skinner, Joslyn Chase Williams, who all received a degree in textile and apparel management and George Thomas Jones and Sheila Lynn Morris, who each received degrees in parks, recreation and tourism management.

Other Nash residents earning degrees include Emily Bone in history, Amber Tinnelle Crocker  in communication, Jonathan Michael Joyner in horticultural science, Philip Wilkerson Lane in electrical engineering, Vincent Kam Lee in biochemistry, C’Nece Rochelle Lewis  in computer engineering and Justin Douglas Todd in mechanical engineering.

Nash residents earning Bachelor’s degrees in business administration includ Caroline Michelle Joyner, William Ennis Kornegay, Jacoby D Pulley and April Brooke Smith.

Nash residents earning Bachelor’s degrees in agricultural business management include William Harold Freeman  and Vestie Richardson.

Mark Elliott Rackley received a Master’s degree in accounting at NCSU.

Courtney Anne Gallup received a Doctorate degree in plant pathology and Jennifer Leigh Godwin received a Doctorate in nutrition.

In addition, Christina Renee Viverett received an Associate’s degree from the Fall Ag Institute in agribusiness management.
