BETTY NICHOLS RAY

BATTLEBORO - Betty Nichols Ray, age 81, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Born in Wilson County on February 14, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Gray Nichols and Virginia Tanner Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward Thomas "Tommy" Ray.

Betty is survived by her sons, Dennis Ray of Nashville, Thomas Ray and wife, Sandra, of Tarboro, Randy Ray and wife, Ann, of Hinesville, GA, and Kenneth Ray and wife, Pauline, of Check, VA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; her sister, Peggy Sue Batchelor and husband, Alton, of Red Oak; her brother, George Nichols and wife, Mary, of Rocky Mount; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Jerome Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
