The town board of Castalia had a couple of visitors at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday.
First, Rev. Victor Fenner of Castalia Missionary Baptist Church addressed the board. The Family Fun Day at the Castalia Park is in its final stages of planning/preparation. Fenner first approached the board about the idea in March. Several area churches and county agencies will be present at the event including the Nash County Sheriff's Office, NC Highway Patrol, health department, and social services. The final committee meeting for Family Day is scheduled for July 17th at 6 pm in the Town Hall. The event is scheduled for August 4th, with a rain date planned for August 11th. Fenner thanked the board for their support, stating he was looking forward to the event and really excited about it.
Next the board heard from Tony Stone of Stone Auction and Realty. He is interested in buying a well the town owns that is classified as "surplus" property. Stone said the deal could potentially be a win-win, relieving the town of maintenance costs. Mayor Ellene Leonard said a special meeting would need to be called, and the matter discussed in a closed session.
The next Park and Fourth of July meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, July 10th at 6 pm in the Town Hall. This will be a recap of the 2018 July Fourth event, and discussion of how things went and improvements to be made.
The next regular meeting of the town board of Castalia will be August 7 at 6 pm in the Town Hall.
