Red Oak board mulls speed radar detecting signs

The majority of the regular monthly meeting of the town board of Red Oak was spent discussing speed detecting radar signs. The idea was initially brought up at last month's meeting. Quotes were gathered to discuss at Tuesday's meeting. Radarsign, a company based in Georgia, offered the most attractive product. A mobile sign that is lightweight, theft proof, and about half the cost of similar solar powered models, was discussed at length. The company has offered to send a representative to do a demonstration of the technology and answer any questions from board members. A decision will not be made until after the demonstration.

In other news, the board voted to declare September 19 NC Wesleyan Day. The request comes from NCWC, as it prepares to celebrate its 61st Anniversary.

The board also heard a brief update on the park - the bleachers have been installed. The scoreboards should be installed next week.

The board was also invited to attend a "simulated exercise for product release with pipeline and gas distribution companies [on] August 31st in Rocky Mount." The Coordinated Response Exercise will be an emergency preparedness session, related to the incoming natural gas pipeline.

The board also voted to change the day of its regular monthly meeting from the second Tuesday to the second Monday.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board of Red Oak will be Monday, September 11 at 6:30 pm in the town hall.
