Katherine Hollowell Reed Langley

ROCKY MOUNT, NC -- Katherine Hollowell Reed Langley, 94, formerly of Winfall, and more recently of Culpepper Drive, Rocky Mount, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 in Rocky Mount Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Langley was born in Chowan County on December 30, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Charlie D. and Mary Florence Ward Hollowell. A homemaker, she grew up in the fellowship of Hertford Baptist Church where she was a member for many years, and for the past 30 years had been a member of Arlington Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Corp "Bill" Reed; a daughter, Billie Sloop; four sisters, Mary Jordan, Nellie Berryman, Ima Byrum, and Ruth Byrum; and by four brothers, Clarence, Fernando, Cebert, and Sydney Hollowell.

Surviving are her husband, Lester Langley; a daughter, Mary "Kitty" Etheridge and husband Fred of Shawboro; a son, Robert "Bobby" Reed and wife Lynn of Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren, Mary Wallace and husband Kenneth, Katherine Jenkins and husband Josh, Shannon Bowen and husband Jody, Heather Haynes and husband Daniel, Nelson Reed, Robert Reed and wife Susan, and Danny Sloop and wife Irene; 15 great-grandchildren; her lifelong "Roadrunner" friend, Ann Copeland Baker; many nieces and nephews; and her loving caregivers.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be officiated by Pastor Kenneth Wallace. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service. A private burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Another service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m. in Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
