Miriam Hyde Barkley

Miriam Hyde Barkley, 93, of Wilson, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving children.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday, 4:00 PM, at Forest Hills Baptist Church followed by visitation in the fellowship hall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace T. Barkley; son, Davey Barkley; grandson, Tim Barkley and brother, Allen Hyde.

Mrs. Barkley had a servant's heart. She was a selfless, Christian lady who always gave even when she had very little. Her greatest joy came in gatherings with her family and extended family. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, Forest Hills Baptist Church and her beloved Dorcas Sunday school class. Her bridge club and friends held a special place in her heart.

The family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Wilson Medical Center and the staff of Parkwood Village.

She is survived by her children, Joe Barkley (Pam) of Zebulon, Dale Barkley (June) of Wilson, Pam Butler (Gerald) of Bath and Tony Barkley (Lori) of Wilson; grandchildren, Mandy Gainey (Eric), Michael Barkley, Leigh Shanks (Doug), Davis Butler (Shelly Edwards), Chelsey Harper (Thomas), Haley Barkley and Justin Barkley; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Melba White of Nashville; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Davis and Cleta Barkley; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church, 1407 Forest Hills Rd NW, Wilson, NC 27896, Aenon Baptist Church, 7503 Town Creek Rd, Elm City, NC 27822, First Baptist Church, PO Box 1467, Wilson, NC 27894 or a charity of one's choice.
