Castalia's annual Fourth of July celebration offered many activities and events, including a veterans' appreciation ceremony, hosted by Small Town USA, a car show, and the annual parade. According to Mayor Ellene Leonard, the entire celebration was great. "God blessed us with a beautiful day," she said. "We honored our veterans again this year. The entertainment was very good, and we had about the same crowd as usual."
The car show, put on by the Castalia Volunteer Fire Department, had a good turnout, thanks to the participation of the Franklin County Cam Twisters. The parade was also entertaining, with about 85 entries, according to the mayor. Marlita Thompson was presented with this year's Citizen of the Year Award.
The live music began in the afternoon around 4 p.m. and included the Ricky Simmons Gospel Group, Veil Tron Life, and the Tazz Band. Ronnie Ezzell served as emcee, and performed as well. Faye Vick and Kevin Davis also preformed.
The festivities concluded with a grand finale fireworks display that evening around 9 p.m. A Fourth of July committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at 7 pm to review this year's celebration, discuss what went well and what areas need improvement, and begin plans for the 2016 celebration.
