Coopers names Tyson Ruritan of the Year
Coopers Ruritan awarded Jane Tyson of the Macedonia Community the Ruritan of the Year title at its annual appreciation banquet last week.

Jane and husband Danny joined Coopers Ruritan Club in March of 2004. She has served the club as treasurer for nearly two years.

When preparing to present the distinguished award, Stuart Lamm said, “The Ruritan of the Year is always someone who goes above and beyond, someone who looks after the details and that person for 2007 is Jane Tyson.”

Jane and Danny have two children Stephan, 19, and William, 24.

Current club president Harold Winstead thanked Tyson for all of her contributions to the club through her volunteer work.

Also at the banquet, the club presented a check to its first upcoming Eagle Scout, David Fincher. He is raising funds to build a shelter at the Coopers Ruritan baseball field on Volunteer Road as his project to become an Eagle Scout. The club donated $500 to the start of his project.

Dennis Raper, Zone Governor, was present at the banquet to install new officers for 2008. “It’s always a pleasure to be with you at Coopers Ruritan Club,” he said, “This club always represents what being a Ruritan is about.

New officers were installed for 2008. They are: Calvin Horne, president; Ron Hawley, vice-president; Christian Horne, secretary; Jane Tyson, treasurer; Harold Winstead, past president; Peggy Winstead, assistant secretary; Eddie Coats, assistant treasurer; Peggy Winstead, three- year director; Charles Ethridge, two-year director; and Billy Baker, one-year director.

Billy Baker, Charles Ethridge, Linda Ethridge, Calvin Horne, Wayne Horne, Jane Tyson, William Winstead and Harold Winstead were acknowledged for their perfect attendance in 2007.

New members were acknowledged at the event which included Peggy Winstead, Bonnie and Larry King, Randall Lamm, John Phillips and Gerald Walston.

Another prestigious award was given during the banquet, a first in its category for the club. Member Billy Baker presented William Winstead with an award in appreciation and recognition for his years of outstanding service and for the first $500 contribution towards the club’s new local community fundraising drive for a regional park.
