Dorothy Lincke Harlow Savage of Bedford, VA died peacefully Sunday, October 21, 2012.

Born in Nashville on December 16, 1930, the daughter of Virgil Wilfred and Evelyn Lincke Harlow, Dottie was the granddaughter of Maurice W. Lincke, founder of The Nashville Graphic, and his wife the former Maude Rouse, and lived in Nashville during most of her early years.

Her widowed mother later moved with her teenaged daughters to Hopewell, VA. where Dottie met and later married her only love, her late husband Preston Stewart Savage.  They had three children who survive her:  Julie Savage Parker of Bedford, P. Stewart Savage, Jr. (Carolyn) of Lynchburg, VA and Vann Harlow Savage (Linda) of Bedford.

Dottie was a graduate of Hopewell High School and, after her children were of school age, she obtained her long-time dream of becoming a nurse.  After receiving her LPN degree, she worked at her chosen profession in Bedford for more than 20 years until her retirement.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dottie was always the heart of her immediate and extended family and active in her community.

Other survivors include her granddaughters Jamie H. P. Fitting (Douglass) of Monmouth, Oregon and Kelly J. Parker Mayhew (Chris) of Bedford; two grandsons Michael D. and Robert T. Mason of Lynchburg; and great-grandchildren Haley and Lane Mayhew of Bedford, Morgan Fitting of Monmouth, Oregon; and Evan and Andy Mason of Lynchburg,   She is also survived by one cousin, a former Graphic news editor, Christine Lincke Wilson Johnson now of Hopewell, VA and several nieces and nephews of Richmond, VA.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Preston S. Savage, Sr., her sister Mary Ellen Harlow Kennedy of Richmond, VA, and her devoted son-in-law Gene Parker of Bedford.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25th at Tharpe Funeral Home in Bedford, VA.
