John Wesley High, Sr., 99, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012. He was born January 3, 1913, son of the late Charles Fletcher High and Lane Katherine Wester High. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Pattie Winters High, daughters, Fay Powell and husband, Dan and Norma Smith; and sister, Wilma High.
He is survived by his daughter, Becky High-Shipp and husband, Frank of Durham; son, John W. High, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Dortches Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Barton and Dr. Chet Rains officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dortches Baptist Church, 4776 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
