Super State Swimmers
HUNTERSVILLE - Southern Nash's Victoria Hardy and Nash Central's Tyler Leggins capped off their spectacular seasons with fourth-place finishes at last Saturday's Class 3-A State Swim Meet.

Hardy earned her medal in the Girls 100 Breaststroke, while Leggins' medal came in the Boys 50 Breaststroke.

Highlights from the meet for Southern Nash and Nash Central were as follows:
Southern Nash

· Kaitlin Williams, the NEW-6 Conference Girls Swimmer of the Year, took 19th in the 50 Free and 13th in the 100 Free

· In addition to her medalist effort, Hardy also claimed 18th in the Individual Medley. Hardy's medal in the breaststroke was a first for the Southern Nash swim program.

· SN's Girls 200 Medley Relay was 21st in the state. Team members were Williams, Hardy, Brennan Snipes and Brittany Mitchell.

· The Ladybirds' 200 Free Relay of Brittany Alford, Snipes, Hardy and Williams posted a school-record time while taking the 13th spot in the state.

"The day was a fitting conclusion to an outstanding season for the Firebirds' swim program,'' said SN head coach Mark Patton. "The Southern Nash women's swim team closed out the most successful season ever with a Top-25 finish as a team in the final state standings.''

Nash Central

· Justin Murray finished in sixth place in the 50 Free (with a PR of 22.84) and ninth in the 100 Free (51.08). Murray, a senior who was competing in his final career meet, holds school records at NC in the 200 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Free and 100 Back).

· Tyler Leggins' medalist performance in the 50 Breaststroke was a personal best and school record of 1:03.03.

· Brandon Atkins offered a personal best and school record time of 5:34.01 while nabbing the 19th spot in the Boys 500 Free.

· The NC Boys Medley Relay of Murray, Atkins, Leggins and Cody Strickland mustered a 13th-place finish at 1:52.57.

· Rebecca Johnson closed in 18th place in the Girls 500 Free with a mark of 5:54.70.

· Reaching the preliminaries for NC were Leggins (200 IM), Max Sherard (100 Fly), Johnson (200 IM) and the Boys 400 Free Relay quartet of Murray, Sherard, Atkins and Strickland.

Sherard's time of 1:03.26 while taking 18th place in the 100 Fly was a personal-best effort.

A total of 74 schools from across the state participated in the prestigious, season-ending high school swimming meet.

Swimmers needed to finish in the Top 16 in the prelims to reach the finals.
