Local man avoids prison for sex crime
Macklin
A Nashville businessman recently pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child.

Joseph Wayne Macklin, Jr., of Hunter Hill Road, Rocky Mount, entered a guilty plea in Superior Court in January. As a result, Macklin, 28, received 36 months probation. He is also required to register as a sex offender.

Macklin, who is the manager of the Town and Country Restaurant, was arrested in December 2005 after having sexual encounters with a teenager, who was 15 at the time. An 18-year-old female was also present at the time of the incident, which occurred at the restaurant after it had closed. The 15-year-old girl told her boyfriend about the sexual encounter, who told the girl's mother. The girl's mother alerted authorities.

Judge Quentin Sumner suspended a 13-16 month prison sentence for Macklin, instead giving him 36 months probation and 125 hours of community service.
