Teacher dies in auto accident
A Friday morning accident killed a Rocky Mount teacher and injured two others in a head on collision on Old Carriage Road.

According to Trooper K.B. Heath with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Steven Clark Jeans of Nashville was driving a Chevy Pickup south on Old Carriage Road when he apparently crossed the center line and hit 53-year-old Cheryl Anne White of Rocky Mount head on. White was driving a Toyota Celica passenger car. She died at the scene. White was a teacher at Rocky Mount Prepatory School.

Jeans and 25-year-old Andrew Campbell, of Rocky Mount, were treated for minor injuries. Campbell was riding with Jeans.

Heath said he is not 100% sure what caused Jeans to cross the center line though two cars were parked off the roadway on either side. He added that Jeans stated he applied his brakes when he saw the cars parked and fishtailed, causing his vehicle to cross the center line. Heath said it was not raining when the accident occurred around 7:11 a.m. but had been raining before the accident.

Jeans was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. "What caused him to go left of center, irregardless of the reason, he's still in the wrong by going left of center," Heath said.
