RICHARD “ELWOOD” CARTER
Richard “Elwood” Carter, 86, passed away, Friday, January 28, 2011. He was born February 9, 1924 in Cumberland County. He was the son of the late Theodore and Sallie Jernigan Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Carter.

He is survived by one son, Richard Lee Carter of Wilson; three daughters, Mary McCarter and husband Joe of Nashville, Shirley Hall and husband Hughie of Rocky Mount, Kathy Faye Sloan and husband Tim  of Ramsuer, NC, one brother, James Carter and wife Frances of Fayetteville, NC, two sisters, Louise Vitek of Chicago, Illinois, and Ethel Moore of Brandon, Mississippi, five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Family  received friends at the home of Shirley Hall, 2513 Marshall Lane, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. A graveside service was held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with the Rev. Stanley Carter officiating.
