There may be dire consequences for individuals who cause certain incidents of disruption at a park in Red Oak.
Town Clerk Tracy Shearin said the town, along with the Nash County Sheriff's Office, has received complaints regarding people leaving areas of Ennis Park disheveled and people executing unacceptable behavior, which includes using expletives in front of children and marijuana use.

NASHVILLE - A Nashville one-year old boy has died and his four-year old sibling is hospitalized due to ingesting Oxycodone which was allegedly left on the bed within reach of the children.
Nashville's Police Department responded to 220 Richardson Court at approximately 9:36 p.m. on September 6 and assisted the Nashville Fire Department and Nash County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society and the Town of Red Oak hosted the first annual Red Oak Classic last weekend featuring classic cars, antique tractors, food trucks, local vendors and exhibitors, local music and even the chance for a hot air balloon ride.
Red Oak Town Clerk Tracy Shearin said the entire Red Oak community embraced the opportunity of accepting a gift from the Justice Community when it decided to retire as host of the antique tractor show.

Several homes in the Indian Trails Subdivision may be eligible for a buyout program, Nashville Town Manager Randy Lansing announced on Tuesday night.
Lansing has been pursuing buyout opportunities for homes that consistently flood during heavy rains in the Indian Trail area. Lansing said he hasn't had luck with his pursuits so far but recently, discovered another program that could help homeowners in the subdivision.

RELAY FOR LIFE - Cancer survivors walk the first lap Saturday during Nash County's Relay for Life held at Sunset Park in Rocky Mount.

Nash County Relay for Life pushed forward this year even though the odds were stacked against them.
Pre-pandemic, Relay teams and visitors would fill the Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium. This year, a much smaller almost grass-roots type event took place in Rocky Mount at Sunset Park. About 75 people stopped in over the day-long event with three teams participating.

Nash County has reopened drive-thru testing due to the increased surge of new positive cases of Coronavirus.
Testing is available at the Nash County Health Department on Barnes Street in Nashville. Appointments are required however staff are typically able to offer same day or next day appointments.

Developers will be creating a sign for a gas station slated to open in Spring Hope in the near future.
Buddy Laws of RedCo Properties said Duck Thru gas station will be adjacent to the town's upcoming Bojangles. The sign will stand about 125 square feet high.
The plan is for the sign to have a side-by-side orientation view. It will feature both Duck Thru gas station and Bojangles and will be illuminated.

Flags were displayed from September 9-12 at 1081 S. Wesleyan Blvd. in Rocky Mount. The event was hosted by VFW post 2057 and the Sharpsburg Exchange Club.

A 2021 Nash Central High School graduate passed away Monday due to an accidental firearm discharge.
The Nashville Police Department responded to a call for service at Wheeless Drive Monday at approximately 1:12 pm for a reported deceased male.
Upon arrival, Nashville Fire Department and Nash County Emergency Services provided assistance in medical treatment however, 18 year old, Derrick Macklin Jr. was already deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

A Bailey man who was charged with drug offenses in 2019 was sentenced on Wednesday to 151 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the distribution of crack cocaine in the Nash and Wilson County area.
Costa Rontrell Pender was identified in 2019 as the primary suspect in the investigation.

A Rocky Mount man was sentenced to 120 months in prison for stealing ammunition and firearms in Elm City, North Carolina. Cecil Terrance Reams, 48, entered his guilty plea on June 8, 2021.
According to court documents and other information presented in court, Reams, his co-defendant, Brandon Shane Reams, 42, and another male subject, broke into a residence in Elm City, North Carolina, in the early morning hours of August 29, 2018.

Sunday Pastor Gene presented a Patriot's Day Service honoring the memory of all those lost and injured on September 11, 2001. During the September 11 attacks in 2001, 2,977 people were killed, 19 hijackers committed murder-suicide, and more than 6,000 others were injured. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, and 125 at the Pentagon.

When we lived in Georgia, there was an article in the "Faith and Values" section of Atlanta Journal-Constitution that I read in sheer astonishment.

The Red Oak Classic Tractor and Car Show at Ennis Park had a great weekend! Participants enjoyed the car and tractor show, power parade, food, music, vendors, exhibits, and more while also enjoying the beautiful weather. North Carolina's egg prices were lower on extra large and large, steady on the balance when compared to last week. Supplies of extra large and medium were fairly light, while large were mostly moderate to meet a fairly good demand. The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, September 09, for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade "A" eggs was 169.72 for Extra Large, 163.57 for Large, 98.53 for Medium, and 82.00 for Small eggs.

I'll be the first to admit that when I see social media posts featuring eastern North Carolina barbecue or various types of ice cream, I might be drawn closer to my screen, but I have yet to lick or swallow my phone.

This week's Backward Glance photo brought a smile to my face but also left me a bit melancholy.
Dr. L.A. High was our family doctor throughout my childhood and teen years up until his retirement.
I recall him visiting our home on a few occasions as a house call for medical care.

KENLY - Five months ago, the Nash Central Bulldogs traveled to North Johnston for a football game that saw NCHS put together one of its finest offensive performances of the Spring 2021 campaign.
It was almost as if the Bulldogs had never left.

BUNN -- Coming into Tuesday's Big East Conference volleyball showdown at Bunn, Nash Central had yet to lose a match -- and had dropped only two sets -- during its prolific start to the 2021 season.
But things were about to get interesting for the Lady Bulldogs beginning Tuesday as they were set to begin a 48-hour gauntlet featuring key Big East matches against long-time Franklin County powers Bunn and Louisburg.

STANHOPE -- The Southern Nash Firebirds improved to 3-0 with a 51-26 win at home last Friday over the South Granville Vikings, who dropped to 1-3.
It appeared the Birds would start really well with a 66-yard return for Leo Jones to start the game and give Southern Nash the ball inside the Vikings' 10-yard line, but a fumble on third down and goal ended those hopes.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School's boys soccer program experienced a COVID hiatus early in the season -- and the Bulldogs have been trying to play catch-up ever since in the always-competitive Big East Conference.
Central opened its slate in August with a loss to former Eastern Plains Conference rival North Pitt, and then had to sit out for two weeks due to COVID.

ZEBULON -- Carolina's Noah Campbell drove in two runs with a two-run double in the first, but the Down East Wood Ducks went on to score five unanswered runs the rest of the way while defeating the Mudcats 5-2 in Carolina's 2021 home finale on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.
Carolina (65-49) led 2-0 after getting Campbell's RBI double in the first, but the Wood Ducks (68-46) went on to tie the score with a two-run home run from Randy Florentino in the second stanza of action.

ROCKY MOUNT -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College football team lost its lead late and fell 30-21 to Shenandoah University at home Slast aturday afternoon on another beautiful day at the Vernon T. Bradley Football Complex on the NCWC campus.
Wesleyan got off to a terrific start, marching right down the field on their opening drive to score on a 34-yard touchdown pass from QB Storm Yarbrough to WR Trey Blackwell that completed a 7-play, 71-yard drive in just 3:13.
